Transformation Often Radiates from the Simplest of People

Many of the wisest humans have not been people of great fame and power or leaders of vast numbers of followers. Much of the profound healing and transformation that takes place in any age emanates from people who are not known for great abilities or miraculous deeds. Great compassion and transformation often radiate from the simplest of people, those whose lives embody love and truth.

There is a great truth in the statement, “If you want to know a Zen master, you must ask his or her spouse.” We are known through our most personal actions, our care, our words, and our feelings. Living in inner harmony and peace means including every thought and action in the living expression of that harmony and peace. Those rooted in true wisdom and compassion feel no need to proclaim it from a pedestal. They know that the only meaningful way to live is to enact the spirit of love and wisdom every day in every way.

We are moved by the stories of great sages and spiritual masters because they are living examples of a profound wisdom that we can also sense in ourself. They have discovered how to find a great calm amongst chaos, how to greet conflict and disrespect with forgiveness and acceptance. They live a life of profound faith in the midst of suspicion and doubt. Their mission is not to impose their truths upon others but to live in accord with the truths they have come to understand to express that inner harmony in every area of their lives.

It is said that one of the greatest miracles in spiritual life is a change of heart/a change of consciousness – this change occurs through first awakening and then through the process of transformation and transfiguration. When people say they are grateful for the Teaching, this means to me that their life has a sense of direction. That they live a life filled with principle and virtue. They practice forgiveness and understanding. It is not how much they know it is how they put their knowledge into their day-to-day lives. This is how a student gives respect to his Teacher and to the Teaching. It is not by proclaiming how long they “have been in the Teaching” or how many books they have on their shelves…those who show gratitude to the Teaching are those who live it.

For example, a very simple example, we embody the Teaching through the way we treat our neighbors, our families, our communities, our country and environment and ourselves. The power of our heart is contagious, the spirit of being awake and conscious is contagious. If we wish to have inner and outer peace, we must be peace; if we wish to have love in this world, we must be love. Our children, friends, and co-workers will most benefit when we are a brother or sister to them, bringing our minds and hearts, our integrity and wakefulness when we are together.

Remember in last week’s blog where I wrote that when Gandhi was asked if he had any message for the world, he said, “My life is my message.” If you are bringing the Teaching to the world by being living examples of the Teaching…what is your message?

It is said about a brother – that when he had concluded weaving his baskets and put handles on them, he heard a monk next door saying: What shall I do? The trader is coming but I don’t have handles to put on my baskets! The Basket weaver took the handles off his own baskets and brought them to the monk saying: Look I have these left over. Why don’t you put them on your baskets? He made his brother’s work complete, as there was need, leaving his own unfinished.” (Desert Fathers)

This is the example of living the Teaching; it is an example of being the Teaching, of giving respect to our Teachers who gave so much to us; do you see? The basket weaver didn’t first serve himself and then another – he engaged in sacrificial service by forgetting himself to help another.

It is said that soon after His enlightenment, the Buddha passed a man on the road who was struck by the extraordinary radiance and peacefulness of his presence. The man stopped and asked, “My friend, what are you? Are you a celestial being or a god?”

“Well, then, are you some kind of magician or wizard?”

Again the Buddha answered, “No.”

“Are you a man?”

“No.”

“Well, my friend, what then are you?”

The Buddha replied, “I am awake.”

Are you living the Teaching? Does your life exemplify respect for the Teaching? Are you awake?

Love, Hatred, & Their Effects in Your Life

Love, Hatred, & Their Effects in Your Life

We know what it feels like to live with anger, hatred, and alienation. We know, too, what it feels like to be filled with love, friendliness, and warmth, and the power those feelings have to connect us. I truly believe that it is our own life stories which serve us as our greatest teachers for they reveal to us what we need to nurture in our hearts and the ill will we must let go of.

Gandhi 01To learn from our life lessons is not to ask how we can learn to be compassionate but to appreciate that we cannot afford to live without love. No matter how justified our anger and resentment seems to be, we must open our hearts to love. Mahatma Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye is a terrible way to blind the world.”

There is a Buddhist verse which says:

Hatred never ceases by hatred

But by love alone is healed.

This is an ancient and eternal law.

Gandhi 02When Gandhi was asked if he had any message for the world, he said, “My life is my message.” What message does your life give?

What qualities of your being do you bring into the difficult situations in your life? Is it love or hatred? What are the effects? Without words, in what way do you touch your friends, family, and strangers? What is the spirit you touch them with and how will they remember you? How do you live and embody the wisdom of the Teaching; the love and ethics of the Teaching? Where do you not do so?

One day a traveler said to him, “Why do you go on preaching?”

Said the prophet, “In the beginning I hoped to change these people. Now, if I still shout it is only to prevent them from changing me.

star of the morningA young man was living in a monastery, and there was a very rich but stingy man who would come to the meetings. The young man’s Teacher told him one time to come to the meeting after 10:30. He did. When the rich man came there was no place to sit and no one was getting up to offer him a chair. Then the Teacher asked, “Do you like the situation?” “No, I do not like the situation because I had to stand through the whole lecture.” “Write a check then, so that we build a new Temple.”

Hatred is not a popular subject so it is rarely talked about. But if you really think about hatred and do a research on it, you will see that hatred is a source of every kind of disease – physical diseases, emotional diseases, mental diseases. It is important for us to teach our family and friends, our children, what hatred does to humanity and what it is doing now so that from the beginning our children can stop the source of their future sicknesses, pains, and sufferings.

LotusI would so love to hear from you – about your own experiences of events, for example, how love healed a relationship you were in, whether it was a partner, a spouse, a family member, a child or a co-worker or friend. What did you do to mend the relationship? Was there a time you thought you “just couldn’t do it” yet you found the strength to forgive? Where did you find the resources of your strength? What were the effects?

Much love on this day of Pi 3.14.15

HINDRANCES THAT KEEP US FROM TRANSFORMATION

Blessing_The_Travelers-mmiIn the Upanishads, a student comes to the Teacher and asks, “What am I?” The Teacher replies, “You are not the body.” The student goes away for six months and thinks, “I am not the body.” Then he returns and asks, “What else am I not?” The Teacher replies, “You are not the emotions.” For three years he contemplates this. Then he returns to the Teacher, where he is told that he is not even his thoughts. He asks, “If thought evaporates, how will I exist?” By asking and discovering what he is not – not what he is – he eventually discovers what he is.

Sufi teacher 01The Sanskrit term Upanishad refers to the student sitting down near the teacher while receiving esoteric knowledge. The general area of the composition of the early Upanishads was northern India. The two earliest texts of the Upanishad are pre-Buddhist. It is believed that they may be placed in the 7th to 6th centuries BCE, give or take a century or so. Yet – they are still timeless.

Ancient AstrologerThe essential point underlying the student’s questions of the Teacher is to realize that until he, until you, until all of us can sacrifice our little self, we cannot find our greater Self. We also hear other phrases in the Teaching about sacrificing the little self, such as “renunciation,” and to“empty yourself.” Renunciation and emptying oneself means until we can sacrifice our little self we will continue to live in darkness; in illusion; in the “unknown.”

To live in darkness, to live in illusion, to live in the “unknown,” means to live in a world of hindrances which halt our life. To live in darkness, means we are asleep and unconscious.

zen teacher 03“There was a Zen master who passed from this world when he was 61 years old. Fulfilling his life’s work, he left a great teaching, far richer than that of most Zen masters. His pupils used to sleep in the daytime during midsummer, and while he overlooked this he himself never wasted a minute.

When he was but 12 years old, he was already studying philosophy. One summer day the air had been so sultry that little Soyen, stretched his legs and went to sleep while his teacher was away.

Three hours passed when, suddenly waking, he heard his master enter, but it was too late. There he lay, sprawled across the doorway.

“I beg your pardon. I beg your pardon,” his teacher whispered, stepping carefully over Soyen’s body as if it were that of some distinguished guest. After this Soyen never slept again in the afternoon.”

The Teaching tells us that “there are three major hindrances that prevent us from becoming greater. By analyzing and working on them, we can eliminate most obstacles on our path that prevent us from progressing.

These three obstacles are:

  1. Our criticisms of others.
  2. Our own failures and,
  3. The image that others build in us.

2.- We emphasize, think, feel, and write so much about our own failures that we mold ourselves into a concrete “I am bad” image. As you mold yourself, you prevent all kinds of possibilities to grow.

3.-“You are stupid.” You absorb that image and say, “I am stupid. Every one is saying I am stupid, so I must be stupid.” Or, “I am fat, so I must be ugly and sick.” Then you become stupid, ugly and sick. Eventually, you assimilate, digest, and absorb whatever they say about you to such a degree that you play the game of having others direct you by remote control.

rabbi - 02A rabbi name Zusha told his students, “When I die, God will not ask me, was I like Moses or was I like Joshua in my life. He will ask me, was I Zusha.”

To see with clarity and to respect what is here, right now in your life, to fulfill and offer your own inner gifts – that is the spiritual path. To let your life be a deep expression of your heartfelt values, of the Higher Self; to know what awakens you and to nurture it – this is your way; our way. This is the real Self; the real you. The real Life.

zen teacher 04We must all take a look at our lives and determine what in our life is the most essential and also determine what is preventing us from progressing? What obstacles are hindering and halting us from advancing our consciousness? It is only our inner treasures, our talents and our Soul that can save our life. It is in renouncing ourselves, in emptying ourselves that allows the Higher Self to be at the helm of our ship; the beacon of our life. When our Higher Self leads us, when our Solar Angel guides and directs us, when we hear the Call and respond…we will be able to crush the hindrances that are halting our life and preventing the process of transformation.

With love and compassion,

The Power of Humility

Intro:

Mulla Nasrudin“Mulla Nasrudin was outside on his hands and knees below a lantern when a friend walked up. “What are you doing, Mulla?” his friend asked. “I’m looking for my key. I’ve lost it.” So his friend got down on his hands and knees too and they both searched for a long time in the dirt beneath the lantern. Finding nothing, his friend finally turned to him and asked, “Where exactly did you lose it?” Nasrudin replied, “I lost it in the house, but there is more light out here.”

Blog:

HumilityHumility is one of the greatest qualities we can have because it is the result of the awareness of people loaded with memories of harmfulness. No matter what position the person has or how great the respect people give to him, he is humble.

Humility is not a state in which you suffer with your own transgressions of the past. It is a state in which you are above the image you had in the past, and you are now on the road of freedom from your lower nature; from ego and vanity. You do not feel proud or privileged, as long as a single memory of hurting a sentient being exists within your memory.

The way to humility is not achieved through denying the existence of these memories, but by using such memories as tools or materials:

to understand our complicated selves

-to understand the subconscious life of others

-to find ways to uplift others and to emancipate their minds from lower thoughtforms

-to use such memories as fuel to deepen our aspirations

-to see how cause and effect travel on the path of our life

You must see that understanding life is impossible if we have not passed through

Nature helps us to forget many past memories. Even the subconscious mind throws them out and makes them vanish, but the permanent atoms keep the records. Such records can be annihilated as our True Self, the Divine Self unfolds within our nature.

A person who is fused with his own Divine Self is a person of deepest humility because when one becomes hi True Self, he also becomes One with the Self existing in all beings.

“It is the feeling you experienced when you came face to face with losing your reputation, prestige, and honor and being considered a failure. This is a very strong pressure created to crack very hard crystallization’s in your nature, but they cause the spirit to release itself.

Sage by N.K.RoerichHere is an example that some of you may have experienced: Many years ago my husband and I found ourselves facing a bankruptcy. It was in the mid 1970’s when there was a stock market crash similar to 2008. Several of our clients, who had owed us a substantial amount of money, in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, were unable to pay their monthly account with us. It forced us to close our business and declare bankruptcy. My husband was then left to find another job to support our family – a situation where he moved from being wined and dined by bank executives and corporation presidents to working behind a counter at a 24 hour business similar to 7-11 stores. Those who had at one time been clamoring for our money and business would now see my husband serving them behind the counter. It was humiliating for both of us, but only momentarily. I learned firsthand what is essential in life – integrity, honesty and good friends; as did he. I was very proud of him; and to this day I admire how he took care of our family and did not allow pride to disrupt his life.

star of the morningIt is not how much money you have; it is your ability to stand tall and to do what you have to do to survive, with honor. It is about faith in your future and in yourself. Do you see?

Your comments are most welcome.

SPIRITUAL INDEPENDENCE

abode-of-the-spirit_N.K. RoerichSpiritual independence is a goal; it is something most of us are working toward, or desiring, once we know it is possible.

To be spiritually independent means, in part, to do our best to be independent from the limitations we have in our personality life, for example, freeing ourselves from negative emotions. There are a myriad of others things as well, of course, but this is a big one.

When you become spiritually independent you are going to be a soul lighting the way. Soul independence is an urge in you, in me, in the soul of every person, to be free and to prevent any imposition of the will upon our life.

WMEA Meditation Garden at Izvara Property

WMEA Meditation Garden at Izvara Property

The White Mountain Education Association (WMEA) has a prisoner’s outreach program – a study program, which includes men and women from prisons all over the United States. We recently received a nice long letter from one of the men who was explaining how the prison guards would not allow him to be independent – saying they do not want any one prisoner to stand out from the rest. He felt that because of their attitude he had lost his individuality. This was his understanding of independence and individuality…to do what he wanted to do and not have to cooperate with the prison system. I think his misunderstanding of being an individual vs having independence is pretty common.

scaledTo be independent we must become substantially free from our personality limitations. However, it is in being independent that we learn how to be interdependent, how to cooperate, and eventually reach a point of harmony and balance within ourselves and with Life itself.

Spiritual independence is when you have the ability to prevent any imposition of the will from others upon yourself, your group, as well as from the limitations of your personality nature. We must be careful that others do not impose their will upon us.

Kamagra medicine is available in many different forms like Kamagra tablets, Kamagra soft tablets, Kamagra polo, Kamagra vardenafil levitra online oral jelly, Super Kamagra and Kamagra effervescent.
spiritual arroganceSo now that we understand, at least in part, what spiritual independence is, we should keep in mind there is also a wrong independence. For example, arrogance; arrogance is an urge to be independent. But being spiritually independent has nothing to do with arrogance. In independence we try to manifest the beauty that is within us without letting other people hinder the process of manifesting our beauty. If we understand that, it will be an important step on the path of our soul, do you see?

Heart of the UniverseNow comes the critical point of spiritual independence…”when we ourselves are walking on the path of independence, we must let other people be independent and we must not impose our own will upon them. Anytime we violate the independence of other people, we impose our image upon them and we do not let them manifest their own original beauty.

With love,

Joleen

Mercury Retrograde Goes Direct Feb 11th, 2015

retrograde MercuryYou may already be feeling this—Mercury is slowing to its station direct in early Aquarius. This is exact at 7:57 am MST tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 11. Mercury turned to retrograde motion on Jan. 21, right after the Aquarius New Moon. Mercury is stationing direct while in a conjunction to the brightest asteroid[1], Vesta.

As the next few days progress, I suggest you take things one step at a time, check your facts, and not make any promises. Mercury stationing has a precarious effect, and it’s very difficult to predict the influence that it will have. The most noticeable energy to work with at the time of a Mercury station is that of reversal.

group 01You may also find yourself having an opinion contrary to that of your family or of a group. So if this is the situation, choose your points well always backing your points with facts and experience. You may not be able to change the beliefs of some in the family or group, but at least they will know your point of view. It is always best to speak up in such a way that that you are more likely to have credibility with those in authority.

Retro Mercury and Aquarius NMThe retrograde phase included a somewhat ominous, impressive Full Moon of Aquarius, and spectacular activity in Pisces, which is not over. Indeed, we are about to experience a beautiful aspect — Venus conjunct Chiron in Pisces. Mars was recently conjunct Chiron; both Venus and Mars will soon move on to Aries, and have their first of three meetings this year, both fresh out of their initiations with Chiron.

Activity in Pisces is lavishly creative and mystical; Venus and Mars conjunct Chiron offers the essence of deep emotional and psychological healing and conscious sharing. It is, at the least, about being fully aware of who you really are, what parts of yourself you want to transform, and what your healing agenda is.

This is highlighted by Mercury retrograde making a conjunction to Vesta back on Feb 5th and with a second one coming on March 4 when Mercury is in direct motion. Vesta holds space for what you might think of as rituals — a clear space where something can come through. This is not necessarily ritual in the formal sense but rather that of opening yourself up to new experience in a conscious way.

Mercury retrograde can dredge up events and revelations from the past. This week there were two of them.

To Kill a MockingbordI learned that Ms. Harper Lee, author of Pulitzer Prize-winning 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, will be publishing her second novel, called Go Set a Watchman. Watchman predates Mockingbird as a written work, and the manuscript was presumed to be lost. But someone turned up a copy, and it’s scheduled for publication on July 14. Ms. Harper has her Sun in Taurus, a good sign for creative people. Taurus grants persistence and staying power, and that unusual mixture of energies which brings about a sense of being strong, solid, and sensitive.

Brian WilAlso in retrograde Mercury news, Brian Williams, the well known NBC Nightly News anchor, has admitted that he wasn’t really involved in a helicopter incident in Iraq 12 years ago. His recent version of the story was that he was on board an aircraft that was struck by enemy fire and forced down. He was actually in the helicopter behind the one that was hit. He is quoted a saying, “I think the continued viewing of the video showing us inspecting the impact area – and the fog of memory [Neptune influence] over 12 years – made me conflate the two, and I apologize.” For further information go to this link : USA Today quotes him

THE EFFECTS OF NEGATIVITY UPON YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS

consciousness 01Before I get started on today’s blog, I think it is best to have a basic understanding of the definition of consciousness. This definition is according to esoteric psychology as taught by Torkom Saraydarian: “Consciousness is the soul’s light or radiation. It is an accumulation of light around your head that can penetrate many miles and be amplified through them.”

Observation tells us that a negative state of consciousness sees only the dark side of things. And this state of consciousness, as it grows, can easily become obsessive and fanatical. Having a negative state of consciousness causes a person to only see things that are ugly, failing and unstable. He only sees defeat, and in the end, affects the local and global environment in the most insidious ways. It has become a contagious disease, causing many to lose hope and vision for their future.

Then there is the person who has an opposite state of consciousness, the “all is good” consciousness. This kind of person is as dangerous as the “all is bad” person. “All is good” people can be trapped in terrific miseries until eventually they realize the realities of life. And I believe that the “all is bad” thinking person destroys his or her chances to be someone or something better.

abode-of-the-spirit_N.K. RoerichA healthy person has principles, ethics, and measures by which he senses, by which he can distinguish a dark heart from a heart that is alive with hope, vision, and beauty; that can recognize ugliness from beauty.

A positive person is one who has the conviction that beauty, light, and love eventually will be the most desirable goals.

Okay, let’s say that you yourself have, or you know someone close to you who has a negative consciousness. How do you know? To have a negative consciousness describes a person that only sees grammatical mistakes in your writings, weaknesses in your verbal communications, and hidden agendas in your behaviors.

Blessed Soul - N.K. RoerichFor example, grammatical mistakes: Some time ago I wrote what I thought was a beautiful article on esoteric astrology. I was aware such information was not well known to the spiritual community and so I wanted to share the information. And I did, sending the  report to my spiritual mentor, who was also a published author. He returned the article and told me to have it printed in Meditation Monthly International. So I did but only after the magazine’s editor took a look at it.

consciousness 04A few days after the article was published, a co-worker sent a “corrected version” of the article to me in the mail. She had decided to edit the article herself…making countless red markings, correcting what she considered grammatical errors. (This reminded me of olden days when grammar teachers would “red letter” student’s papers.) The “red letter” person’s negative consciousness affected my writing for the next few months; but rather than to defeat me, I tried hard to take something good from it. I bought several books on grammar and learned a lot, including the fact that I should trust the magazine’s editor who was up-to-the-minute on the rules of grammar. This was an example of a person, who well intended, had a negative consciousness.

Does not viagra without prescription break or mash the tablet, take it completely? Disclose you complete health record to the doctor prior taking this pill. In short span of time, main organ starts receiving ample volume of blood needed to enlarge the size, increase rigidity and to develop healthy buy viagra samples deeprootsmag.org erection. joy 06One who has a negative consciousness has no appreciation for the service you render, for the love you have, or for the gratitude you feel toward him. He always finds something to negate your opinions, actions, or plans. If you do something useful for others, he tries to see a wrong motive behind your action.

E E CummingsOne day a mother, trying to give encouragement to her son and daughter-in-law sent them what she thought to be a letter of love. The couple were struggling with things in their married life and really down on their “luck.” It took her an hour to make sure everything in her letter was worded with love and care and concerns in such a way that it would lift their spirits. The son was responsive in the positive to the letter. The wife was not…she saw only the worst in the letter and told her husband’s mother she never wanted to see her again.

joy 03For the son, the letter was beautiful and uplifting for him. For the daughter-in-law there was no appreciation coming from her; she had found nothing but negation of all the good written in the letter. The daughter-in-law was only concentrating upon all that she thought was ugly, wrong, short, condemning, unloving and so on.

The wife’s negative consciousness was blocking the psychic energy, the life-giving energy circulating within her system and gradually poisoning herself and the marriage. She could not see the good in the letter nor the good in her husband or yes, even the good in herself.

Negativity destroys such a person’s true identity. To feel that they have an identity, they always attack others to feel that they exist and that they are superior. They feel superior if they make others inferior.

It is important to identify a negative consciousness and not to allow it to poison your own beingness. When we become poisoned by the negative consciousness of someone close to us, it dims our light and can ultimately turn us against the beauty of life. There is no transformation in a negative consciousness.

consciousness 05

May the light of love guide our consciousness; always.

Love,

Joleen

Mercury Retrograde: January 21 – Feb 11th.

retrograde Mercury Over the years of studying Mercury retrograde I have learned, as have others that it doesn’t always deserve the bad rap it gets in pop astrology. In other words, things don’t always turn out horribly when we have a Mercury retrograde period.

Yes, our observation of the Mercury retrograde phenomenon is literally an illusion. It’s rooted in the ancient Ptolemaic model of a geocentric universe. But that doesn’t mean we should ignore Mercury retrograde.

As Kristin Dombek noted last week in her thought-provoking article on “Retrograde Beliefs” in the New York Times Magazine, (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/magazine/retrograde-beliefs.html?_r=0 ) Mercury retrograde adds value to our human experience. And, as the data in Mercury, Money & The Markets (http://harmonicresearchassociates.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=113) reveals, Mercury retrograde can also add value to the stock market.

retrograde Mercury 02So what about this month—January and next month—February? What about the present Mercury retrograde period starting at 17º Aquarius?

In 1936, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained almost 7% during that Mercury retrograde cycle! And that’s not all. The market activity in January 1936 before the Mercury retrograde period began is also a match for this present retrograde cycle (Jan-Feb). It closely parallels the market activity we’ve seen so far this month, January 2015.

financial market imageThere are even more 1936 and 2015 correspondences.  You’ll find them in the current issue of the FinancialCyclesWeekly newsletter (https://www.financialcyclesweekly.com/members/login.cfm?hpage=Newsletter-for-January-1824-2015.cfm.) it’s worth reading if you’re currently trading in any market.

But even if you’re not in the markets now, pay attention to the Mercury retrograde period that’s starting on January 21. You might be surprised to hear some good news during the following weeks.

And don’t forget February 11, when the Mercury retrograde period ends. That date may or may not have anything to do with Social Security. : ) But good things could happen.

Agni Yoga: An Introduction

Agni Yoga – an introduction.

Helena Roerich foto31_ roerich_nkThe Teaching of Agni Yoga was introduced in 1921 by Nicholas and Helena Roerich. Nearly one hundred years later, it is still the most recent major yoga in the evolution of yoga. Agni Yoga is about the fires of the higher mind. The practice of Agni Yoga leads one from the lower mind to the higher mind and into the Higher Worlds. Some call Agni Yoga the yoga of Living Ethics.

Agni Yoga book coverThere is a series of books written about Agni Yoga, published by the Agni Yoga Society headquartered in New York City. http://www.agniyoga.org You can find all the books in the series at this website. They are available to download into your computer or device, for free.

“Agni Yoga is a Teaching that educates the soul and gives us direction, so we can graduate from this Earth school into graduate school— the Higher Worlds.

Agni Yoga Symbol“Throughout the Agni Yoga Teaching, you will find many instructions on how to graduate with honors. The keynote for graduation into the Higher Worlds, into the Supermundane life is Self-perfectment. Self-perfectment is Light. The opposite of Self-perfectment is “self-indulgence.” Self-indulgence is darkness. [A person] either creates or destroys.”[1]

“As we read the books of Agni Yoga, we discover that at the heart of this Teaching, there is an emphasis upon fire and upon evolution. Fire is about the creative life; evolution is about Infinity.

The fire of Agni“Fire is life. The Fire of Space is the source of all life in any form. The ancient writings instruct, “Fire is creative.” Creative Fire permeates all Space. In some Teachings the creative Fire is called Kriyashakti: the life-giving, divine Fire in all forms of life.

Fires of Space“When we draw from the life-giving Fire in the Universe, we direct our consciousness to the path of Self-perfectment. It is the flame in our heart that links us with the creative Fire in Space, with the Heart of the Universe. This same creative Fire is also located within our own nature: “As above, so below.”[2]

INTRODUCTION: Saturn takes the stage

SaturnSaturn entered Sagittarius on December 23rd and will remain in that sign until June 14, 2015 when it will retrograde back into Scorpio until September 17, 2015 and then moves back into Sagittarius until it leaves on December 19, 2017. If you have mutable signs from 1 degrees up to 5 degrees you will be more strongly affected than other planetary and zodiacal locations through mid-November. After mid-November Saturn begins to move a little more rapidly. The mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sag and Pisces.

Medieval CapricornIn medieval astrology Saturn was known as the “greater malefic.” Saturn’s position in the birth chart was thought to bring ruin and misery. Saturn is considered malefic in Vedic astrology as well, representing the principle of karma that is inescapable and unchangeable. However, things are changing…many people on this planet are waking up and taking charge of their lives; taking responsibility for their thoughts, feelings and actions; and most especially taking responsibility for one another; for the life of his family and group; for the life of the nation and humanity, and for the life of planet earth. When a person wakes up and begins to think consciously, it is then his thinking life and action life changes for the good. He has a growing sense of responsibility, which results in freedom and liberation. He no longer lives as if he is a “victim” of his life or a victim of circumstances. It is at this stage in life that Saturn now takes on a new role in the life of the conscious, “awakened one.” As long as a person is bound to the earth and to the earthly ways of living, he is “earth-bound.” Being “earth-bound” means he is living a mechanical life – the life of an automaton.

In esoteric astrology the Master Tibetan tells us that Saturn, “is the planet of discipleship and of opportunity; it is exceedingly active today, presenting to the world disciple those difficult situations and crisis which will involve free choice, discriminative pioneering, wise response and correct decision, thus bringing about the destruction of that which hinders without the relinquishing of any true values of which humanity may be aware.”[i]

Saturn - the children of medieval picDuring the days of Capricorn, we should strive to ponder “on the opportunities Capricorn energies bring to the growth and development of discipleship qualities—the qualities of a mature spirituality. We are asked to think about those advancing members of humanity who are in process of developing deep skills of discrimination, detachment, harmlessness, wisdom, and of a loving will.[ii] We are asked to acknowledge those who are most consciously bringing qualities of the Divine Self into incarnated expression that represent the peak, the growing point of the evolutionary process. “In some way, in some small measure, we ourselves will be in process of developing these skills—so we can meditate from a framework of what is real, rather than imaginary, ideas and ideals about what a more lighted consciousness might be like.”[iii] [Discipleship themes for the energies of Capricorn have to do with light, illumination, initiation and transfiguration—the mountaintop experiences.

Happy New Year to all of you. May this New Year bring you blessings beyond your imagination and love that will heal your mind, heart and body.

Love,

Joleen DuBois
