Cancer is one of the constellations of the zodiac. The Cancer constellation is located in the northern sky. Its name in Latin means “the crab.” Cancer is the faintest of the twelve zodiac constellations. Its symbol is . Cancer is the sign of the summer solstice, and represents the Sun at the highest point of summer. Cancer is a small zodiac constellation found between Gemini and Leo, which contains mostly faint stars. The brightest star in the constellation is Altarf which is over 500 times more luminous than the Sun. On star charts, Cancer is usually outlined only with the stars marked in red.
Introduction
Cancer is a water sign. If your Sun or Rising sign or your Moon or other planets in your horoscope are in Cancer, it may have found you as a child being a challenge to your parents and later to your peers or any person in authority. And, it is most likely that you carried these similar behaviors with you as you traveled into your adult life. You likely wore others down with your going this way or that, up and down and all around. Water doesn’t like to go straight. It likes curves. If something is in its way, water wears it down or finds another way, right? If you have a preponderance of water in your chart, including Scorpio and Pisces, this description likely reflects your nature, for good or bad, constructive or destructive.
Water always needs a container, always. For you, the Cancer Sun sign, Rising sign, or Moon sign person, your home is your container. What is your home? It can be the household you live in; it can be your lighted consciousness, your higher consciousness; it can be your Temple. However, no matter the kind of container you reside in, it must be constructed out of the substance of Love. If Love is missing in the container, you will find yourself in a frozen love-less environment, an environment that is lacking in creativity, inspiration, sense of direction, and sense of future. Your container is no longer a lighted house, and you will isolate part of your nature from others.
Dr. Emoto and his comments about Water
Dr. Emoto said if you talk to water, say, “I love you” or “You are blessing to me,” the water will get very happy and purify. One person meditating on the banks of a highly polluted lake or river can clean the whole lake. This is a miraculous feature of water, that one single molecule can heal all others. Likewise, if you say something nasty to the water, it can putrefy. Yes, those who are born in the constellation of Cancer or have a preponderance of planets in water signs are highly susceptible to pure, clean, loving environments and must live in a lighted house, enabling their lighted soul to expand and grow. If their “house” is polluted, their hearts will become, in time, putrefied or frozen, and others will find that they have become defensive, aggressive, and argumentative, mostly out of a need to protect themselves, their container, their abode.
Helen Keller
Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880. Her Sun (and Venus) were in the sign of Cancer, her Moon was in the sign of Pisces, and her Rising sign was in Scorpio.

A brain fever illness at nineteen months destroyed her sight and hearing and left her unruly and animalistic, classified as an idiot. At the age of seven, her parents hired Anne Sullivan, a teacher from Boston, who herself had been raised in an insane asylum. With the aid of her dedicated teacher, Helen Keller developed an exceptional mind and an ability to express herself. During her lifetime, she wrote fourteen books and translated fifty books into various languages, wrote countless magazine articles, gave lectures, met presidents, and traveled the globe to more than tweny-five countries. One of the most remarkable women of her age, she received many decorations and honors.
Ms. Sullivan taught her Braille in three years and speech in ten years. When Anne spelled words into Keller’s hand, she mimicked the movements without understanding, until the magical moment when she realized what the letters w-a-t-e-r meant and that everything had a name. Within six months, Helen Keller learned the manual alphabet, could read Braille and raised type, and was writing letters.
Helen and Annie became inseparable despite their different personalities. Helen was optimistic and effervescent; Anne, temperamental and gloomy. When she was sixteen, Helen’s dad died, but he hadn’t paid Sullivan for the past eight years, and it was through the kindness of wealthy friends that they continued their activities. Sullivan accompanied Helen when she attended Radcliffe College, where she graduated cum laude in 1904 as the first deaf-blind person to receive a college degree.
Helen Keller suffered her first stroke in 1961 and died on June 1, 1968 in Westport, Connecticut, as she neared her 88th birthday. Her ashes were taken to the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
Horoscope for July 19, 2016
The full moon of Cancer/Capricorn this month has four planets in water, plus the midpoints of Jupiter/Pluto (Scorpio) and Uranus/Pluto (Pisces) in water signs. Which direction will the currents want to travel? With Mars still traversing the sign of Scorpio, forming a separating aspect with Uranus, emotional and physical volatility is likely to continue (Joleen wrote this forecast Tuesday, July 5th) ; and with the Moon and Sun in square to Uranus—blocking freedom, creativity, and the status quo—I think it is safe to say that in the field of political events, we can continue to experience unanticipated updates. It certainly will not be a “steady-as-you-go” platform of global events, particularly in the arena of politics and weather.
Virtue of Discrimination
I’ve mentioned in past WMEA Zodiac Newsletters that each zodiac sign or constellation is associated with a virtue. A virtue can serve the Cancer Sun- or Rising-sign person with a lifetime keynote. Discrimination is the key virtue for Cancer. “In Sanskrit, discrimination is called buddhi. Buddhi means light. This is why Buddha is called the Enlightened One. Discrimination is the ability to see what is blocking your path toward evolution. Discrimination is actualization of your knowledge. If there is no actualization of your knowledge, you really do not know anything and you are only reflecting the ideas of someone else.”[1] It is with discrimination that we as individuals and we as a country[2] are going to build our lighted house. This keynote is obviously not referencing racial discrimination but an action of a higher value. Even if our Sun, Rising, or Moon sign was not in the constellation of Cancer when we were born, this sign is a part of everyone’s horoscope and thus a part of our collective unconscious, and thus is an inherent part of our Divine Self and thus a part of our human soul. Let us all develop the virtue of discrimination.
The Sun is traversing the sign of Cancer from June 21st through July 22nd. The energy intensified on the day of the New Moon, July 4th, and will continue to build through the time of the Full Moon—July 19th. On the 22nd of July at 9:30 a.m., the Sun will move into Leo, bringing a new virtue into our domain to express more deeply. As we meditate on these virtues, we are going to touch ideas and energies radiating from the Buddhic, Monadic, and Divine planes. We will also have the opportunity to contact corresponding petals of the Lotus in our Higher Mind. Virtues are electrical lines that put each of us in contact with Space. Such contacts cause expansion of consciousness and help us further build our lighted house. In fact, the Great Ones tell us that virtues are communication lines between us and highly advanced Beings.
Two of the jobs of the highest member of the Hierarchy, called the Hierarch, is to promote those souls who are ready to evolve and accept more responsibility. It is at the period of each full moon where communication between disciples and the higher dynamic energies provide opportunity for impression, inspiration, and aspiration. This contact manifests as a creative energy in the life of the disciple who is engaged in service.
There is a group called the New Group of World Servers who are made of those disciples through whom impressions from Shambhala and the Hierarchy are passed so that humanity may live their lives in accord with the Plan of the Hierarchy and the Purpose of Shambhala.
The Great Horseman (Rigden Djappo, the Shambhala Sovereign)by Nicholas Roerich (1927)[3]
As we accumulate the Rays of the Great Ones in our Lotus, we will become inspired with ways in which to build our lighted house. It is important to keep in mind that as we build our lighted house, we are, in turn, increasing the light in our working group as well as humanity. The Lotus is where the accumulated treasures of the soul are stored and later resourced according to the need and purpose in the life of the soul. The Lotus is the repository of one’s duties and responsibilities. We are told that all light bearers must carry their Lotus with self-respect and dignity. This they must do because as their duties and responsibilities increase, the attacks upon them will multiply. It is the light that will repel their dark arrows returning them to their perpetrators.

[3] The Great Horseman (Rigden Djappo, the Shambala Sovereign) (1927). Nicholas Roerich presented this painting to the government of Mongolia. He explained the meaning of the painting himself, while handing it over to the government chairman: “Mongolian people are building their bright future under the banner of the new age. The Great Horseman of liberation is rushing above Mongolia territory…. The Great Khuraldan composes solutions for the people’s new life. And the call of the wonderful Red Horseman is loudly sounding. In the times of Asia flourishing, an artwork or a book were considered the best gifts. The best times of Asia have come again….”
